The new generation of plastic storage tanks
The innovative Roth Thermotank Quadroline 325 and 500 litre models set new standards in heat storage technology – in terms of energy efficiency, lightness, space-saving design, hygiene, variable operation and resistance to corrosion. The Roth Thermotank is the world’s fi rst plastic composite heat storage tank (using fibre/plastic composite technology) to function as a pressure tank with aluminium diffusion protection. The new storage concept enables hygienically safe and forward-looking integration into the domestic drinking water system, as well as off ering the possibility to use solar energy. The tank is extremely light, only around a third of the weight of a comparable conventional steel storage tank, which makes for easier transport and installation. The Roth Thermotank Quadroline has either energy label A or B, depending on the design.

Versatility of use
Thanks to its construction, the Roth Thermotank Quadroline is versatile and can be used in customised system solutions as a stand-alone storage tank or in combination with other devices. For example, it can be used as a central unit in heating applications, as separation or buffer storage tanks, as a solar or combined storage tank or for domestic water heating. The Roth Thermotank Quadroline can be integrated directly into heating systems with a maximum continuous operating pressure of up to three bar.

Conveniently light with maximum temperature consistency
The Roth Thermotank Quadroline is made from a high-quality plastic composite material with aluminium diffusion protection and high-performance EPS insulation on the outside. This material makes the tank extremely light – it weighs only around a third of the weight of a comparable conventional steel storage tank. A further advantage of this specially certified plastic material is that it is resistant to corrosion. Compared with conventional metallic storage tank materials, it is significantly more effective at reducing heat loss. This considerably improves heat storage and has a positive effect on the energy balance of the entire heating system. The unique plastic strengthening matrix (composite) offers a high level of pressure stability. A stable outer cover made from special high-performance EPS insulation enables efficient minimisation of heat loss. The new, lightweight design of this storage tank makes installation and assembly easy – an advantage which installers are sure to appreciate.

All systems green: Thermotank Quadroline has energy label A or B depending on the design

Key date for eco-design and energy labelling: 26 September 2015
The countdown has begun: the energy labels we know from household appliances are now coming to heating installations in the cellar. The European Union’s ErP (energy-related products) Directive stipulates the legal framework for designing energy-consumption-related products in an environmentally friendly way and indicating their efficiency. The aim of the efficiency label is to help consumers choose an efficient product.

This means that heat generators and heat storage tanks holding up to 500 litres must be labelled with energy efficiency classes from 26 September 2015. It will not be compulsory to publish information about appliance efficiency until this date, but this obligation must be met from then on. Hot water requirements are set to be made more stringent from 2017.

In addition, due to the new implementing Regulation, hot water and buffer storage tanks holding up to 2,000 litres may now only be put on the European market if they meet efficiency and thermal insulation standards. The labels for heat storage tanks cover classes A to G.

The Roth Thermotank Quadroline heat storage tank for domestic and heating water is extremely energy-efficient. Tests conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Freiburg have confirmed the energy label A rating of the Roth Thermotank Quadroline design with Thermocoat plus. For example, the Fraunhofer Institute’s test measured heat losses (S) of 59.3 watts for the 500-litre storage tank with Thermocoat plus, which is up to 65 per cent less heat loss than standard tanks. The Thermocoat plus is available for the 325- and 500-litre storage tanks. The standard version of the Roth Thermotank Quadroline also proved to be highly energy-efficient in the Fraunhofer Institute’s test and has been awarded energy label B.

The most efficient of its kind
Thanks to its efficient heat storage, the Roth plastic storage tank loses very little heat when it is idle. Depending on the model, the Roth Thermotank Quadroline can reduce heating processes by a quarter. The Roth Thermotank Quadroline is the world’s first and only pressure-resistant plastic composite hot water storage tank for heating and domestic water. It consists of a thermally stable thermoplastic tank and high-performance composite filament material with integrated diffusion protection. The energy balance of the Thermotank is considerably better than metal storage tank materials thanks to the optimal heat insulation properties of the storage tank material. A stable outer cover made from special high-performance EPS insulation also enables efficient minimisation of heat loss.

Energy efficiency

The Roth Thermotank Quadroline’s efficient heat storage is not only eco-friendly, but also saves money – your money! When compared directly with metal storage tanks of the same size, the Quadroline records up to 65% less heat loss thanks to its plastic composite material, which takes the pressure off your heating and off your wallet too. Depending on the model, heating processes that are necessary for the compensation of the standing losses can be reduced by a quarter, so the investment pays off quickly.

Hygiene

The high-performance composite plastic used prevents corrosion. Hygienic operation is of the utmost importance, particularly for our drinking water. To achieve this, Roth offers an integrated heat exchanger made of corrugated stainless steel piping to heat drinking water based on the constant flow principle. The fresh water is heated when it is required – quickly, safety and cleanly.

Compact safety

The high-performance composite material used guarantees maximum strength. In the development of this heat storage tank, we use technologies that have been tried and tested in space. The composite technology used to achieve the plastic heating tank’s pressure resistance is now also being applied to heat and drinking water storage tanks for building technology. The compact design enables space-saving installation in the corner of a room.

Because of its unique energy efficiency which is based on the slight standing losses, the Roth Thermotank Quadroline achieves already after the second year of the investment a great cost advantage compared to standard steel storage tanks.

Up to 65 per cent less heat loss with Roth Thermotank Quadroline – Heating processes reduced by a quarter

Recent comparison tests under identical conditions show significant differences in terms of heat loss from hot water storage tanks. The test results show that the Roth Thermotank Quadroline heat storage system exhibits up to 65 per cent less heat loss than standard storage tanks, making it a top performer in energy efficiency.

At the start of the test on Roth’s premises, three variants of the Roth Thermotank Quadroline and a standard storage tank were heated to 60 °C. The cooling behaviour was then measured over the next seven days during standstill at a constant room temperature of approximately 23 °C. All of the Roth Thermotank storage tanks displayed ideal energy efficiency.

Jens Haffner, Head of Energy Systems Research and Development at Roth, explained: “During standstill of the storage tank, with no withdrawals, the standard Thermotank Quadroline with its plastic shell and high-quality EPS insulation exhibits more than 50 per cent less heat loss than a steel storage tank. Equipped with the optional Thermocoat plus, the Thermotank Quadroline can even cut heat loss by more than 65 per cent compared to a steel storage tank.

If the storage tank falls below the setpoint temperature, the connected heat generator reheats it. Owing to its lower heat loss, the Roth Thermotank Quadroline can reduce heating processes by a quarter.
